Beaver Dunes State Park is one of Oklahoma’s best-kept off-road secrets. Located in the panhandle town of Beaver, this 520-acre state park features approximately 300 acres of rolling sand dunes dedicated to off-highway vehicle use.
Unlike typical rocky or muddy trails, Beaver Dunes offers a completely different experience — wide-open sand hills where momentum, tire pressure, and driving technique matter more than rock-crawling skills. It’s a great spot for Jeeps, dune buggies, sand rails, and other 4×4 vehicles that can handle soft sand.
What to Expect
- Large, flowing sand dunes perfect for playing and exploring
- Direct access from the Pioneer Campground (electric & water sites right next to the dunes)
- Dune riding hours typically run from early morning until 11pm
- Other park amenities include fishing, hiking trails, a playground, and a primitive cabin
Vehicle Notes Most 4×4 vehicles with decent clearance do well here. Lower tire pressure (around 15-20 psi) is usually recommended for better flotation in the sand. Street-legal vehicles are generally required, and some parks enforce seatbelt/roll bar rules for dune buggies and open vehicles — check current regulations on arrival.
Fees
- ORV / Dune riding: $10 per day, per vehicle
- Camping fees apply separately (Pioneer Campground is the most convenient for dune access)
